Chania wins 4 Awards at the Best City Award 2025

At the Best City Awards 2025 held on Friday 24th  January 24, 2025, the Municipality of Chania stood out with four distinguished awards across multiple categories. The Best City Awards celebrate pioneering practices in the operation of municipalities and regions in Greece. In 2023, Chania had already been recognised at the Award in 4 different categories.

Once again this year, Chania continues to lead the way in innovation and good practices in local governance, earning national recognition. Specifically, we are very happy to report that our Visionary Solution 1, the Mobile Living Room (MULaR), received a BRONZE Award in the category “Social Responsibility” !

The Municipality’s efforts were also recognised with:

  • GOLD Award in the category “Sustainability in Transport – Information Systems & Smart Applications” for the innovative Park and Ride Chania system. This free and forward-thinking vehicle parking solution in Kladisos integrates “smart mobility” with electric buses, enhancing the sustainable transport experience in the center of Chania.
  • GOLD Award in the category “Culture and Sustainable Development” for the Revival of the Traditional Strata of Chania. This interactive cultural festival enlivens the alleys of Chania’s Old Town every summer, celebrating local heritage and community spirit.
  • BRONZE Award in the category “Digital Local Tourist Guide & Mobile Applications” for the Innovative Digital Tools for Culture and Tourism. This includes platforms such as Explore Chania, Chania Heritage, and a Virtual Tour of the Old Town, offering state-of-the-art digital experiences for visitors.

The evaluation process was conducted through an online system by a panel of 27 distinguished jury members. The awards were determined based on the average score of each nomination.

These accolades affirm the Municipality of Chania’s dedication to sustainability, cultural heritage, technological advancement, and social responsibility, placing it among the most forward-thinking municipalities in Greece.

The Best City Awards is an annual event organised by Boussias Communications in collaboration with the Central Union of Greek Municipalities and the Region of Attica and are aimed at rewarding Innovation & Quality of life in the Greek cities.
