Grand opening of the Swimming Pool at Novo Mesto’s Pilot site
September 2023
The Novo Mesto Swimming Pool’s opening marks a historic moment for the town and a key milestone in VARCITIES as part of Novo Mesto’s pilot. With the support of the project and other funding sources, the Municipality of Novo Mesto received over EUR 510,000 to revitalize the Češča vas sports and recreation center. The goal of the Municipality is to provide diverse recreational and sports programs for all age groups, including vulnerable populations.
Within VARCITIES’ pilot, Novo Mesto plans to create a multifunctional Olympic center by 2025, offering sports, recreation, and educational facilities on the site of the former degraded military area in Češča vas. This initiative aims to improve the health and well-being of the community, with a focus on youth development and elderly care. Recreational programs are a vital part of this effort, and a wide range of stakeholders is expected to join these programs.
During the press conference organised for the official opening, Mayor Macedoni of the Municipality of Novo Mesto stated, “The Novo Mesto Olympic Center has become a reality, with the swimming pool now open to the public. Our vision also includes cycling, equestrian centers, picnic areas, children’s motor skills activities, and amenities for the visually impaired.”
Dr. Boro Štrumbelj, President of the Swimming Federation of Slovenia, also highlighted the pool’s beautiful natural setting and emphasized its role in promoting health through injury-free swimming. Various programs for all generations will be offered at the Novo Mesto Swimming Pool.
Ana Seliškar, Head of the Novo Mesto Olympic Center, mentioned the overwhelming interest in the pool’s opening and invited everyone to visit.
The grand opening happened on September 8, 2023, following the pool’s official opening on September 1, 2023.
“The pool is for everyone and from everyone! ”, declared Ana Seliskar at the opening.
