D5.4: Middleware (sensor management) platform

Work Package 5, led by Integrated Environmental Solutions, supports the digital innovation of VARCITIES by designing and developing all the ICT infrastructure required to collect, store, analyse and visualise data coming from all Pilots and make them available to different stakeholders including citizens in an easily understandable and engaging way.

Specifically, Task 5.4 “Custom Sensor Development” aimed at developing the Sensedge Middleware platform, an essential system for integrating and managing the network of sensors across the various VARCITIES Pilot sites.

Key messages

  • The Sensedge Middleware platform was specifically created within VARCITIES to serve as an essential system for integrating and managing the network of sensors deployed across the various pilot sites, to monitor the operational status of sensors, ensuring optimal performance in diverse environments across.
  • The platform provides essential data on sensor health to Pilot site managers, supporting predictive maintenance efforts and preventing data loss through timely battery replacements.
  • The platform manages diverse data sources from multiple sensors, making it valuable for replication in other urban contexts with similar data needs, or for up-scale in Pilot cities.

Executive Summary

The purpose of the D5.4 is to provide an overview of the work undertaken under T5.4 Custom Sensor Development, to develop the Sensedge Middleware platform.

The Sensedge Middleware platform is a Sensor Management Platform. The main functionality of the platform is monitoring the health and well-being of the deployed sensors in all VARCITIES pilot sites.

The Sensedge middleware platform (https://dash.senzemo.com/) is up and running, with multiple deployments of sensors already integrated and sending their data.
