Socio-cultural summer at Leuven’s Olevodroom: July Highlights!

Since its official opening on March 30, 2024, Olevodroom, Leuven’s VS1, has become a cultural landmark in the city. With a diverse range of activities including theater, breakdancing, circus, comedy, and music, it has enriched Leuven’s cultural landscape. To make the Summer of 2024 extra memorable, Olevodroom transforms into the Summer Stage every Wednesday, offering free concerts and art performances.
Here are the July highlights!
03/07: Laura van Dolron, a stand-up philosopher and leader, presented her new performance Heel, which addresses the turbulence of our times. Themes include political shifts and pressing issues like Gaza and election results. Heel is an intense plea for a gentler world, combining stand-up philosophy with a powerful message.
10/07: Collision, a breaking crew of youngsters aged 9 to 19, made their theater debut with a try-out show created in just one week. The performance showcases the essence of their crew, named “Collision” for the diverse breaking styles that influence and enhance each member’s growth.

17/07: Stand-up comedian Mohsin Abbas shared stories of his youth by the sea, his Pakistani roots, his wild student years in Ghent, and his adventures across Flanders. The performance offers a multifaceted view of Mohsin, from the Venetian Galleries to Ibiza and Bollywood.
24/07: Belgian-Cameroonian rapper, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Joram Kunde Boumkwo brought its unique sound blending jazz, hip-hop, afrobeat, and P-funk.

31/07: Fred Gata, the winner of Sound Track 2023 Flemish Brabant and a young Leuven resident, created a communal experience where every individual could shine together.
Olevodroom is a precursor to the future performing arts building that will be built on this site.
