Our Pilot City Skellefteå hosted a delegation from the Municipality of Österåker in early September to share knowledge and exchange good practices related to sustainable urban development!

Osteråker Municipality’s representatives, primarily from community development and physical planning departments, visited Skellefteå for a two-day knowledge exchange. The trip included visits to ongoing projects, the Northvolt One battery factory, Skellefteå harbor, and the VARCITIES pilot site. Despite Österåker’s smaller size compared to Skellefteå, both municipalities share coastal characteristics. The visit aimed to facilitate knowledge sharing and inspire sustainable urban development solutions for Österåker.

At the Pilot site, discussions covered the project’s background, history, and objectives. Visitors had the chance to observe the outdoor classroom in use, where students were engaged in a nature science lecture (Visionary Solution 4). They explored the pilot site, examining various sustainability solutions and discussing their adaptability to different contexts.

The visit provided Österåker valuable insights into sustainable urban development strategies and potential applications in their municipality. Collaboration between these municipalities underscores a commitment to innovation and sustainability.
